I love drinking cocktails and trying out new flavours and so when Coco & Vanilla got in contact and asked if I would like to try out some of their cocktails, I jumped at the chance. It was agreed that they would send me three samples to see what I thought.

Before I talk about the cocktails, let me tell you about Coco & Vanilla. They have been working in the bar industry and want to bring ready to drink cocktails made with a signature blend to people’s doors as well as to restaurants and shops. The cocktails are handcrafted by the team at Coco and Vanilla, “with 96% of the ingredients being created by them”. They state that they “use all natural ingredients”. They are hoping to fully launch in September and are still working on the designs of the bottle so the bottles sent to me are just the tester versions.

On to the cocktails themselves and the flavours I received were “Spiced Rum and Kola Nut Tonic”, “Cherry Vodka and Vanilla Cream Soda” and “Peppercorn and Chamomile Gin and Juice”. Here is what I thought of them…

Cherry Vodka and Vanilla Cream Soda

This was the flavour I was most excited to try because I love vodka. First impressions were that it smelt lovely and it had a sweet, refreshing taste to it that I really enjoyed. One thing I would say is that the cream soda is quite an overpowering flavour and so you can’t taste much of the cherry or the vodka.

Spiced Rum and Kola Nut Tonic

In general, I’m not a huge fan of spices but I do like rum based drinks so I was intrigued. As soon as I tried the cocktail, I could taste the hint of aniseed and knew that this flavour wasn’t for me. It reminded me slightly of a soft drink called Kinnie that I had years ago in Malta and I knew that whilst I wouldn’t like it, my mum would love it and so I will pass the rest of the bottle onto her.

Peppercorn and Chamomile Gin and Juice

I must admit that I’m not a huge gin lover but its not too overpowering in this drink. It tasted very much how I thought a cocktail should and had a lovely citrus flavour. One thing to note is that it tastes so much better than it smells and so don’t be put off by this. Surprisingly, this turned out to be my favourite of the three and I can’t wait to get my hands on some more.

So that is what I thought of all three of the cocktails. One thing that would improve them even more would be to add some grenadine or food colouring type thing to give them different colours because to me, cocktails are always bright and colourful but when it comes down to the taste, there is something for everyone. Which flavour do you like the sound of best?

  1. As a vodka lover myself, I am definitely intrigued by the cherry vodka cocktail. That being said, the gin is pretty enticing too! I love that they are focusing on natural ingredients that they create for the most part, as this cuts back on a lot of the unknown when purchasing premade cocktails.

  2. These look great! I always want to try to make cocktails then get sticker shock when I price ingredients. Buying a kit or already mixed cocktail would be so much easier!

  7. Oh wow, Kinnie, I remember that, haha. I don’t think anyone who hasn’t been to Malta would know it though. I think the one I’d love most would be the gin cocktail, that sounds delicious. I’ll have to head over to Coco and Vanilla and check them out – great review, Kelly! Lisa

  12. These cocktails look so incredibly tasty! I love all the ingredients these drinks (I even like aniseed, though it’s a strong choice for a cocktail). I’m not a huge gin fan, but I’m coming around to it (it’s only tolerable in the summer), so the Peppercorn and Chamomile Gin and Juice sounds incredibly intriguing to me.
