A Christmas Wish For The Landgirls by Jenny Holmes book review

Jenny Holmes is an author that I hadn’t read before but as I had always been interested in the work that the Land Army had done, I thought I’d give it a try. I knew that it was part of a series and even though I didn’t have any of the other ones, I decided to sit down and give this festive read a try.

Set during the second world war, “A Christmas wish for the landgirls” is centred around the story of two land girls, Brenda and Joyce, who decide they would like a fresh challenge and to move billets to help out somewhere else. Their new challenge comes with unexpected difficulties as they come to term with working and living in the remote fells of Yorkshire.

Brenda and Joyce must try to work as hard as they can, whilst trying to fit into village life. With snow falling all around them, they here the news that a evacuee has gone missing, racing against the clock, can they find him in time?

This book explores the idea that everybody has a past and everybody has secrets and its up to the reader to work out what those secrets are until they are revealed later in the story. Twists and turns are seen throughout this story and so many unexpected things happen that has you gripped and wanting to know more. A great read for anyone that wants to get into the Christmas spirit.
