Having long blonde hair takes a lot of looking after. Over the years, I’ve needed to come up with a hair care routine that really looks after my hair, so I thought I would share that with you today.

Dying My Hair
I’ve always had blonde hair, but when I become a teenager, I noticed that my hair was going darker. I managed to convince my mum to let me dye my hair and we went along to Boots to look at home dye kits. We selected the Garnier Nutrisse Creme one in the shade 9 Light Blonde and I loved the results. I’ve actually only ever used this hair dye, although I moved from shade 9 to shade 10.1 Ice Blond which is the one I currently use. I have never had any problems with this dye kit and love how the oils within it leave my hair feeling soft. Inside the kit is the dye, gloves and a conditioner bottle. I try to dye my hair every 6-8 weeks, depending on when my partner Andy can do it as I find it too messy to do myself.
Other Products I Use
I try to stick with products I know when it comes to my hair, so its very rare that I will try something new. However, I do rotate the shampoos that I use so my hair doesn’t get too used to it. I tend to go between a Garnier Blends shampoo (I pick a different scent each time) and Aussie Colour Care shampoo, which is what I’m currently using.
For conditioner, I mainly use the small conditioner pack that comes with my hair dye. I do use the 3 minute miracle treatment from Aussie in the Colour Care range once a week too. I try to only wash my hair twice a week, because anymore than that and it looks dull.

Tools I Use
I try not to use much heat on my hair, limiting the use of styling tools to once or twice a month. My hair is so long (almost down to my hips) that every when I do try to style it, it drops out of shape after a couple of hours. I also like to let my hair dry naturally, because it can create a little bit of a wave and shape around my face.
I use two different hair brushes – Tangle Teezer for when my hair is dry. This is my main hair brush and I love how it gets any knots out of my hair easily and without pain. The second one I use is a travel sized wet brush. I use this one in the shower and literally brush the conditioner or hair treatment through my hair make sure all of the product has been washed out.
In terms of hair ties, I make sure I buy the ones without the mental piece as from years of experience, my hair used to just get tangled around it. Ultimately, I prefer a scrunchie because it holds my hair in place better.
This is all I do in terms of looking after my hair and I find that this works well for me. Do you have a simple hair care routine or is it a bit more complex? I’d love to know in the comments below.
I love learning people’s hair routines – I always pick up a trick or two.
Thanks for sharing your hair rountine, we all have different needs to manage our hair 🙂

You have good hair care routine. Thank you for sharing your tips with me.
Our hair and skin always need that something to stay soft and nourished! It is up to us to find what that something is!
Thanks for sharing what works for you; there is so much inspiration to be found in bouncing off others. 🙂
This was such an interesting post to read. I’ll admit my hair care routine simply extends to washing, letting it air dry and then throwing it up in a bun. I know I should do better to make sure it’s looked after so reading this was really interesting for me. I love the colour of your blonde too!
This was really interesting! Like you I switch up my shampoos/conditioners every now and then to stop my hair from getting used to certain products, but aside from that my routine is just washing and blow drying!

Ohh this was interesting! I love reading about other people’s hair care as I always pick up a new trick or two – I’m terrible when it comes to taking care of my hair though, I just tie it up and forget about it! I should probably make sure to take better care of my hair though!
I love a good old post about hair care – my latest one is kind of similar! I swear by Aussie products, they have really transformed the quality of my hair over the years!

I really need to invest in a Tangle Teezer, everybody raves about them! I loved reading about your hair care routine Kelly, I used to use the Aussie shampoo, but my hair didn’t agree to it after a while and I switched to OGX shampoo which I love! I’ve used Garnier shampoos and conditioners in the past and I do love them also! x

Really nice hair tips. I’m African and can’t really relate on many levels, but a this is a great post.
Thanks for sharing your hair care, Kelly. I have dreadlocks, so my routine is quite different. It’s always interesting to learn how women manage their hair. We work hard to enhance our beauty!
Great post and great routine! I have blonde hair myself and can relate how dificult it can be at times!

I have a similar routine where I wash my hair 2 times a week & I avoid using heat tools & let my hair air dry.
I have a wet brush but I haven’t used it in the shower before.
I dye my hair blonde myself too! I find if I wash it more than twice it also feels really dull, I try to use a conditioning hair mask on it when I can x
It is so important to limit the use of heat and styling products if you want to keep your hair healthy, I believe. I bleach and dye my hair ALL the time with the many different colours that I enjoy experimenting with, which means I have to be much more careful about what other abuse I’m putting it through lol! I’ll have to check out the miracle treatment from Aussie.
I agree about using conditioners! I love Moroccan Oil products. They have a nice leave in conditioner too. Thanks for sharing your routine!
Ooh I love this! It has just reminded me that I need to change up my shampoo more than I’m doing at the moment because I keep just buying the same one. I haven’t done an Aussie 3 minute conditioner for a while, and definitely need to rectify that. Your hair is beautiful, so this all clearly works!
This is a great way to keep the hair looking nice. Some people don’t think of this way and just do the regular stuff. Thank you for sharing it!
Brilliant advice. I am struggling with mine at the moment, I was growing it for the wedding but now I have another year. It is getting long but the longer it gets the worse the condition is.
I will try some of these tips out before I go for the chop!
I love my wet brush, it is definitely a fave hair product of mine
I love hearing about other people’s hair routines. My hair is ridiculous and hard to handle lol I’m always changing things up and trying out new techniques to make it presentable!
I love seeing what other people use for their hair. I try not to wash my hair too often either, as heat really damages it x

I love reading about other people’s routines as I think I use a lot of hair products compared to normal! xx
My haircare routine is pretty simple but it’s hard to look after as my hair/ scalp is really sensitive. Strictly no sulphates, no heat, only brush when damp, and try not to put it up too often. I used to use a shampoo with an exfoliator in it which worked wonders for my scalp but mine got discontinued and I haven’t been able to find a sulphate free one since x

Your hair is so lovely! I have red hair and I used to bleach it platinum blonde for years and it completely ruined my hair. I wouldn’t dye it again now! I need to establish more of a hair care routine. I don’t really do much at all with my hair other than wash it every few days!
Thanks for sharing your routine! Your hair looks lovely xx

I have a tangle teaser as well and I absolutely love it! I used to have really long hair but it’s close to a bob now and my tangle teaser has always been great, i like to use it when my hair is wet to get out all my loose hair. Great post!
Lovely post! I love Aussie’s products for my hair. My favourite to use at the minute are Lush’s solid shampoo and conditioner bars xx

I’m so lazy with my hair, I wash and don’t use much product and rarely use heat. I do need to get something more blonde specific since I’ve had it highlighted though xx
I 100% need to take more care with my hair! These products look good!

I am really nosey so I like to see what people use on their skin and in their hair. I am always looking for new products to try. Thank you for sharing your hair care routine. I am growing my hair currently and it is the longest it has been in a long time so I am really trying to look after it.
Thank you for sharing.
