Now that it is officially summer, I thought it was about time I dedicated a post to my summer essentials. Living in the UK, my summer essentials should probably include an umbrella because lets face it, the weather can change in a split second. The things I’m about to mention are things that I would include in this list every year. It can taken me quite a while to curate this list because there are some many things I could include.
This might sound like an odd one but I wanted to include this first. Headphones are a such a staple for me. I use them when I’m going for a walk as well as relaxing at the beach. With the kids now on school holidays, they are out enjoying themselves, as they should be. However, to block out some of there shouting and squealing, I’ll pop some music on and then its the best of both worlds. I’m a huge believer that everyone should have fun and enjoy themselves. I could never be one of those people that complains when a child is “too loud”, that’s just not me.
Our hands are out in most weathers, unless you have gloves on. In the summer, they often feel dry and need that extra bit of care and attention. Earlier this year, I discovered the most amazing hand cream which is O’Keeffe’s Working Hands. I’ve seen it in shops for years but was never interested in trying it. However, I’m hugely regretting that because my hands have never been in such good condition before.
Red Nail Polish
As soon as summer arrives, I start wearing my red nail polish. Obviously, colour perference is a personalise choice. However I love how good red looks when I’ve got a tan. My favourite one is the Rimmel London Super Gel in shade 039 Tropical Vibes. Its part of a 2 step range where you add a gel top coat. It doesn’t take long to dry and lasts such a long time.
As well as normal sun cream, which is part of my daily routine, I also like to apply a face SPF. I’m currently trialling a few different products for a post that is coming soon, so I won’t give any recommendations yet. Having said that, I always try to find something that is face specific and non greasy. I’d hate for a product to cause me to break out so I try to stick to brands that I know.
Sun Hat & Sunglasses
I’ve paired these two together because they are both essential and self-explanitory. I wouldn’t go anywhere without some sunglasses in my bag. I prefer an aviation style compared to big oversized styles. I’ll always take a hat if I know I’m going to be outside for long periods of time. There is nothing more painful than trying to brush your hair when your scalp is burnt.
A Good Book
For me, a good book is essential during the summer months. Whilst I tend to stick to reading physical books, I do also use the Kindle app on my phone. I keep a few contemporary, easy read books on the app, in case I get a spare five minutes. I’m currently working my way through The Seven Day Switch by Kelly Harms and I’m liking it so far.
There are a few other bits I wanted to include that don’t need any explanation. This includes things like my camera for capturing memories and Instagram photos, lip balm, reusable water bottle and hair ties.
That brings me to the end of my Summer Essentials post. I’d love to know what would be on your list.
