I have followed Mikhila on Youtube for quite a few years, both her Miss Budget Beauty and Diary Of A Spendaholic channels and I feel like I have watched both her and her channels grow. So when it was announced that she was writing a book, I pre-ordered it and waited for it to be published and sent to me.
First impressions of the cover was that it was aesthetically pleasing but I did notice that it had a tagline of “simple steps for mums to find style and confidence”. This made me wonder if it was something that I would enjoy reading but I was determined to give it a try.
For me, this book was one of those that you just can’t put down. Right from the start, I found topics I could relate to such as the “shopping smarter” chapter, where it talks about how to save money whilst still buying the things you love. For years, people have always stated that you should dress for your shape and whilst in the past I have done, in recent years, my body has changed so it was great to read the “dressing for your shape” chapter, to see what styles might suit me now.
There were some chapters that didn’t fit in with my current life such as the “marriage and divorce” chapter, but I still found it interesting to read. Mikhila also wrote a lovely letter to her daughter, which was so beautifully written and coming straight from her heart, it had me in tears.
Throughout the book, Mikhila referred to her contributors, which were a group of YouTubers, bloggers and other people, which Mikhila had introduced at the beginning. At different topics throughout the book, she asked these contributors for their opinions, if they have done something similar and how they handled it, which I think is a nice touch and something I haven’t seen before.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. The tagline on the cover was definitely deceiving because this book is suitable for adults of any age. I’d definitely recommend this book if you are looking for a light-hearted self help guide.
