My Shaving Story

I have been using razors since I was about 10 years old. I hit puberty quite early on. After comments from a couple of boys at school about my hairy legs, I made the decision to do something about it. I can clearly remember sitting in the bathroom with my mum after school, with her teaching me how to shave. I can still remember the sad look on my mums face as she did so. Looking back, I can’t decide if she was sad because I had let those boys comments affect me or if it was because her little girl was growing up. Maybe it was both, I’ll ask her one day.

That first lesson had been with dads razor and gel, a fact we kept hidden from him. I can still recall trying to keep a straight face as he complained that his razor blade was suddenly blunt – sorry dad! Soon afterwards, mum bought me my very first razor and some gel. I can remember it clearly. It was a Wilkinson Sword Quattro, in a stylish hot pink colour. I felt so grown up, although the razor itself felt pretty heavy and I occasionally nicked myself. However that was all part of growing up right?

Fast forward a few years…

I received a new razor in my Christmas stocking. It was the Wilkinson Sword Intuition razor, in a mint green colour. This was the new release on the market and I instantly fell in love with using it. I no longer had to worry about using gel, which as a side note, I was always running out of half way through shaving. It was also a lot lighter and so became perfect for travel. I used this razor every time I shaved and after a good few years, I replaced the handle. This time, I chose pink of course.

So that is my shaving story and how I came to fall in love with the Wilkinson Sword Intuition Razor. But Wilkinson Sword have their own story, one which has the customer at the very heart of it…

The Wilkinson Sword Story

The story begins in 1772, when Henry Nock founded the company albeit under a different name. It had an entirely different purpose and was in fact known for its production of innovative weapons. When Nock died, the company was passed onto his son-in-law James Wilkinson. James son Henry joined the company and it was renamed Wilkinson & Son. Weaponry was still very much at large with the company, as was the production of typewriters, scissors and later, motorcycles.

In 1898, The Pall Mall Razor was introduced to market, with an updated The Pall Mall Patent Roller Safety Shaver being introduced later in 1903. By 1930, the Empire Razor had been launched. Meanwhile in Germany, Osberghaus KG launched a stainless “Fasan” blade to the market. This was the first blade to be coated, although nobody seems to know what exactly it was coated in. However it was the start of a whole new way of thinking.

1955 saw the partnership made between Osberghaus KG and Wilkinson, where the production know how and supplies were shared. The end result? The stainless blade named Wilkinson Sword Edge is born. From then on, as technology and research grew, so did the products and their quality. By 1994, the first female razor, named Lady Protector, was launched. This brings me nicely onto introducing the Wilkinson Sword Intuition Razor…

Today is all about the 2 in 1 Ultra Moisture blade, which fits securely onto the Wilkinson Sword Intuition Razor. So what is so special about it? The four blades are combined with a skin moisturising soap bar infused with shea butter. This really helps to soften and moisturise the skin whilst the pivoting head closely follows the contours of your body. The end result? A close shave with no dry rash. The great news is its dermatologically tested and so perfect for most skin types. As well as the Ultra Moisture razor, they also have a sensitive one and a dry skin one too.

My Thoughts

As I’ve mentioned above, I love the intuition razor and have done for many years. One of the things I really like about this particular razor is that you get to keep the handle and just switch out the blades when you need to. Over the years, I have tried out a few different formulas but the 2 in 1 ultra moisture is definitely my favourite.

As an in shower shaver type of girl, this razor is perfect. As soon as your skin and the razor get wet, you are good to go. I use this every time I have a shower and so find that I very rarely have that moment where I can’t wear something because I need to shave. The design of the handle also means that its easy to grip and doesn’t slip out of your hands when using. All this with the additive of a love natural scent, what is there not to love?

Overall, I think my opinion is very clear. This razor even goes with me on holiday because it is simple and fuss free. It is definitely a more sustainable option than single use razors that so many are tempted to take travelling with them. With the Wilkinson Sword Intuition Razor, you are guaranteed to save time and money.

  1. I have also been using this razor for years (decades perhaps?) and although I’ve tried to find a smaller razor for easier travel, I always go back to this one. Love that our Costco sells it in a large pack which makes it super economical too!

  2. The history of this razor was very interesting to read! I’m not sure we have this brand in the the States, but I use something similar. It’s nice to have something light but not disposable. 🙂
