Goals I’m setting myself for 2023

It wouldn’t be a brand new year without a goal setting post, so today I’m talking all about goals I’m setting myself for 2023. And let me tell you, these are goals that I am going to achieve. I’m determined to do so because this is my year to get myself back on track. If you’re wondering why I need to do this, I’ve spoken about it all in a video titled From abusive relationship to finding happiness over on my YouTube channel. It’s a topic that I’m sure I will talk more about both on my channel and on this blog in the future. However, right now, I need to concentrate on myself. You may think my goals seem a little easier than other people’s, however right now I’m starting off with small steps. So much of my life changed in 2022, that I really do feel like I’m starting from scratch.

One thing to bare in mind is I’m still going to be working on goals that I set at the start of last year. These include things like read more books and drink plenty of water. I did pretty well with the books goal last year, but it is definitely something I want to continue with. For me, reading is a great form of self care. It allows me to relax and get lost in another world. With so many troubles in the world right now, I think we all deserve that little quite time to ourselves. As for the drinking more water, I failed miserably at that last year. In fact, I ended up pretty poorly at one part in the year.

I feel like I’ve added some achievable, helpful goals to the ones I’ve mentioned above for 2023. I hope you will agree, so without further ado, here are some goals I’m setting myself…

Earn more money

This might seem a strange one to start with but let me explain. I have my normal job and then I have my hobbies. My goal this year would be to make more money through my hobbies such as this blog and my YouTube channel. My ultimate dream would be to make these into my full time income but that is a long way off.

Declutter belongings and become more minimalist

Ok, so I’m not going to become a minimalist any time soon. But I can set off on that path to one day get there. One thing last year taught me was that belongings won’t make you happy. Of course I’ve got things that I love and there are items that are sentimental to me. However, this year and going forward, I want my life to be more about the experiences I have and the people I spend time with. With this mindset, it makes me want to declutter my belongings. Where possible, I will still be decluttering sustainably. I love the idea that the things I no longer want can have a second life with somebody new. In fact, just before I wrote this post, I decluttered my shoes. I won’t tell you how many pairs I own, however I have managed to get rid of 9 pairs so that’s a start. Decluttering will also help me to bring more money in too which helps with my next goal.

Become debt-free

So after the stresses of 2022, I’m ashamed to admit that I have got myself into debt. Whilst it’s not a huge amount, it does still stress me out. I don’t like owing anybody money so I’d like to get this sorted out as soon as possible.

Save money

I know the likes of Martin Lewis say you should pay off your debt before you think of adding to your savings and believe me, I do agree. However, there are ways I can save a little bit of money. Things like shopping savvy, saving coins, adding to my Christmas savings. All things which will help me each month. By saving where I can, I’ll be able to pay more off my debt.

Do more free things

Sticking with saving money, I want to try and do more free things. Whether that’s more walks along the beach or getting lost in the beautiful countryside that surrounds me. There’s also plenty of museums that are free to enter as well as a whole host of free events throughout the year. I’d love to enjoy some of these things this year. It also brings me onto my next goal…

Explore my local area more

Lockdown was great for this because I found so many new places to enjoy. I’d love to take this slightly further afield this year by exploring some of the villages and towns around me. Somerset has such a vast array of different places, I feel like you could never get bored.

Loose two dress sizes & tone up

Ok, so I know it shouldn’t be all about the size. It should be more about how you feel. But being honest with you, as someone who is 5ft 1″, I feel too big for my height. By loosing those dress sizes, I feel like I will be more of my old self. I don’t think I will ever be one of those people who looks in the mirror and loves what she see’s. Having said that, I can appreciate all that my body has gone through. With that in mind, I’d like to focus my attention on toning up, especially my arms. I know that this will also help with dropping a dress size or two so for me it’s win win.

Learn some more BSL

If you don’t know what BSL is, it stands for British Sign Language. I spoke about my hearing loss story last year and had such a great response to it. Especially within the deaf community. I got to know a few people who suggested that learning BSL might be something I’d both enjoy and benefit from. I’ve learnt a little bit but I don’t feel like I know enough to make it stick or have a full conversation with someone. Therefore I’d like to keep on learning and improving it this year.

Number goals

I’m not usually a numbers person when it comes to my content. I generally just go with the flo and if somebody wants to subscribe or follow, that’s up to them. However, this year I have decided to set some number goals for my blog and my YouTube channel. I’d like to reach 1000 blog followers and 1000 YouTube subscribers by the end of the year. This will help me with a few of my other goals too if I can get those numbers up. In addition to that, I’d also like to do better on blog views that 2022. My heart wasn’t really in my blog last year and it definitely showed in my view count. As for Instagram, I haven’t set a goal as such. However, I do want to be more relaxed with it and just post photos of things I’m enjoying etc. There will of course still be bits of work over there, however there will also be a lot more of seeing into my life more.

Final Thoughts

So there we have the goals I’m setting for myself in 2023. I hope you enjoyed reading about them and I also hope they have inspired and motivated you too. If you’ve set yourself some goals this year, what is number one on your list? I’d love it if you could help me towards my number goal. If you’re not already following/ subscribed, then please do. If you are, please share my blog / YouTube channel so that it can reach more people.

  5. I’ve been trying to declutter for years. I’m on my way selling old puzzles, and need to get clothes on Vinted again. But really need to go through old sentimental items I never use or look at. It’s hard to do.

  9. These are great goals, Kelly! I like the your intention to declutter in a mindful way. Some of the items you’d like to get rid of might even bring in some cash to help you reach your financial goals. Learning BSL is also admirable. I tried to learn ASL and it was hard! All the best to you in 2023!
