When looking back to my childhood, what stands out the most are the lasting memories created through travelling, both within the UK and abroad. I have many amazing memories, and I learned more than I ever did in a classroom.
When I think back to travelling as a solo adult, even if I was going with family, it was quite stress-free and enjoyable. But now that I’m a mum, can I say the same?

I recently went on holiday for the first time with Ash and Nellie and can safely say that yes it can still be stress-free and fun. In fact, the only real difference is that I had to be more organised and prepare earlier.
Traveling with kids can be a wonderful experience, creating lasting memories for the whole family. To make the most of your trip, consider these tips:
Plan ahead
Research family-friendly destinations and activities, and consider the needs and interests of your children when making plans. Create a rough itinerary for each day, to give you a base to work from as well as an estimated cost too.
Pack Wisely
Be prepared with essential items such as snacks, entertainment, and comfort items to keep your kids happy and occupied during the journey. Also think about different weather types and other events that you might need to plan for. Something as simple as remembering your coats can make a huge improvement on your day.
Be Flexible
Understand that traveling with kids may not always go according to plan. Stay adaptable and patient to accommodate unexpected changes. Also allow for extra time. You can almost guarantee that because you have a strict time scale, the kids will drag their feet even more.
Safety First
Prioritize safety by ensuring car seats, strollers, and any necessary medications are on hand. A mini first aid kit is essential too. Also, establish meeting points in case you’re in crowded places. Another great idea is to have a safe word or phrase so that the kids don’t just walk off with some stranger who has promised they will help.
Involve the Kids
Encourage your children to participate in the trip planning and decision-making process. This can help keep them engaged and excited about the adventure. It also teaches them so many skills and also gives them an input too. That way, you aren’t planning things for them that they don’t actually want to do.
Maintain Routine
While on the road, try to stick to your child’s regular sleep and meal schedule as much as possible to avoid disruptions. When traveling, maintaining familiarity with your child’s routine can help minimize the potential for crankiness, ultimately contributing to a more enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
Final thoughts
Remember, travelling with kids can be unpredictable, but with proper preparation and a positive attitude, it can also be incredibly rewarding. Safe travels!
