My Go-To 10 Minute Summer Makeup Routine (Quick, Fresh & Mum-Friendly)

Summer makeup always sounds lovely in theory. Glowy skin, perfectly blended bronzer, that effortless “no makeup” makeup look.

But in reality, when you’ve got a toddler to think about, getting ready often comes second. You don’t have time to sit and do a full face, and if you’re honest, you probably don’t want to either.

Over time, I’ve found a routine that actually works for me. It’s quick, simple, and most importantly, realistic. Something I can do in around ten minutes that makes me feel more put together without taking time away from everything else that needs doing.

This isn’t about perfection. It’s about feeling like yourself with minimal effort.

Why a 10 Minute Routine Just Makes Sense

When you’re busy, especially with a toddler, time is limited. Mornings can feel rushed, and even finding ten uninterrupted minutes can be a challenge. That’s why having a simple, go-to routine makes such a difference. You’re not thinking about what to use or what step comes next. It becomes second nature.

It also means you’re more likely to actually do it. If something feels like too much effort, it usually gets skipped. But ten minutes feels manageable, even on busy days. And sometimes, that small bit of time for yourself can really shift how you feel for the rest of the day.

Step 1: Lightweight Base

In summer, the last thing you want is heavy makeup sitting on your skin.

I always go for something light, like a tinted moisturiser, BB cream or a very light foundation. Something that evens out my skin tone without feeling like I’m wearing loads.

Most days, I’ll just apply it quickly with my fingers. It’s faster, easier, and gives a more natural finish. If my skin is having a good day, I’ll even skip this step and go straight to concealer.

Step 2: Concealer Where You Actually Need It

Instead of layering product all over, I focus on the areas that need a bit more help.

Usually that’s:

  • Under the eyes
  • Around the nose
  • Any redness or blemishes

A small amount, blended in quickly, makes a big difference without adding extra time. It instantly makes you look more awake, even if you’re running on very little sleep.

Step 3: Cream Bronzer or Powder for Warmth

This is the step that makes everything come together.

A bit of bronzer adds warmth and stops your face looking flat, especially when you’re keeping everything else quite minimal.

I tend to go for something easy to blend and quick to apply. A light sweep across the cheeks, forehead and a little on the nose is usually enough. It gives that fresh, summery look without needing loads of product.

Step 4: A Touch of Blush

Blush is one of those things that instantly lifts your face. Even on days when I don’t feel my best, a bit of colour on the cheeks makes me look more awake and put together.

In summer, I like something soft and natural. Nothing too heavy, just enough to give that healthy glow.

Step 5: Brows, But Keep Them Simple

I don’t spend ages on my brows. A quick brush through and a bit of product to fill any sparse areas is more than enough. It frames your face without adding loads of time to your routine.

Step 6: Mascara to Open Everything Up

If I had to pick one product that makes the biggest difference, it would be mascara. It instantly makes you look more awake and finished, even if you’ve kept everything else minimal. One or two quick coats and you’re good to go.

Step 7: Lip Balm or a Light Lip Colour

I keep this really simple.

Most days it’s just a hydrating lip balm. Something easy that I can reapply without needing a mirror. If I want a bit more, I’ll go for a tinted balm or a light gloss. Nothing too high maintenance.

How I Keep It Quick and Manageable

The routine itself is simple, but there are a few things that make it even easier to stick to.

Keeping everything in one place helps. I have a small makeup bag with just my everyday products, so I’m not searching through drawers trying to find things.

I also stick to products I know work. No experimenting when I’m short on time. Just the things I can apply quickly and trust to look good.

And I don’t aim for perfection. Some days it’s done in ten minutes, other days it’s even quicker. It’s about doing what you can with the time you have.

The Reality of Makeup as a Mum

There are plenty of days where I don’t wear makeup at all.

Some mornings are too busy, some days I just don’t feel like it, and that’s completely fine.

This routine isn’t something I feel I have to do. It’s something I choose to do when I want that little boost. Because sometimes, taking a few minutes for yourself can make a big difference to how you feel.

Why This Routine Works

It’s quick, it’s simple, and it fits into real life. It doesn’t rely on having loads of time or energy. It’s flexible, easy to adapt, and doesn’t feel like a chore.

Most importantly, it helps you feel a bit more like yourself, without taking away from everything else going on in your day.

Final Thoughts

You don’t need a long, complicated routine to feel put together this summer. A few simple steps, a handful of products, and ten minutes is more than enough. Some days you’ll do the full routine, other days you won’t do any of it. Both are fine. It’s not about doing it perfectly. It’s about doing what works for you.
