For those of you who don’t know, Sarah Knight is the author of two books, one being called “The life-changing magic of not giving a F**k” and the other, “Get your sh*t together” both of which I have read and thoroughly enjoyed. After reading both of these books, I found myself thinking why do I worry/concern myself with things that don’t really matter and so they changed my mindset a bit.
When I heard that Sarah had released a new book, “You Do You”, it was a no brainer, I had to read it if her content was a good as the previous two books. However, I think because both of the two previous books becoming best sellers, the price point was a little too high for me, so I had to save up for it and wait a little longer for me to be able to read it.
Sarah’s style of writing is very blunt and to the point. In “You do you”, she explores topics within her chapters such as “how to accept but ignore those people who have different opinions to you that tell you that you’re doing things wrong”, “how to prove those people who doubted what you were capable of wrong” and “how you can be selfish and not perfect without hurting anyone”. The book also has an underlying theme of asking “why do we let what other people expect hold us back”, which pops up throughout the book.
I will admit that I found “You do you” a little hard to get stuck into at the start, but about a quarter of the way through, it became much easier and I started to picture myself in some of those situations. For example, where I have done something because that’s what’s expected of me and not necessarily because its something I have wanted to do.
Overall, I think “You do you” is a book everyone should read because it really opens your mind and can change your mindset for the better. It can help you with confidence and hopefully allows you to achieve what your goals are and you can hopefully have a few laughs along the way too!
Hi Kelly, I’ve been looking for a new book of this type to read, so thanks so much for sharing this review. Based on your comments I think I’ll start with the earlier books by this author that you mention. I’m looking forward to reading them – next click will be Amazon.
Thanks!

I actually need blunt. Those are the self help books that actually help me. I also have certain friends I go to when I need that “slap to the face” type of honesty. I will look into these books. I could use some more reading.

My favourite authors are blunt ones. I love when they’re straight to the point and don’t walk on egg shells in front of the reader! I hate books that drag on so this sounds like the perfect one for me x

I haven’t read any of Sarah’s books yet, not because I haven’t wanted to but simply because time for reading is so limited these days.
I might see if I can get hold of them from Amazon, hopefully it’ll inspire me to get reading x

I love the Sarah Knight books, my favourite one is Get Your Shit Together, I read it when I was really struggling with depression and it helped get me through. I agree some of her books can be difficult to get stuck into but once in they are incredibly useful.
