Make A Wreath For Under £7

Welcome back to another Blogmas post. Today I am ticking an item off of my Christmas Bucket List and challenging myself to make a Christmas wreath. I have never made one before, but I love how pretty everyone else’s looks, with their vibrant colours and unique decorations.

The idea of creating something beautiful and festive to hang on my door fills me with excitement and a bit of nervousness. I thought I would give it a try, gathering inspiration from various sources like Pinterest and my favourite crafting blogs, imagining how satisfying it will be to see my own creation come to life as I add personal touches and seasonal greenery.

Items you will need to make a wreath including base, wire, coloured ribbons and natural bits.

What you will need

I wanted to keep this really simple and worked on a small budget which reflects what materials I have used. If you buy lots of things, obviously the price you spend will also increase.

To put this into perspective, would you believe me if I told you that for this project, I bought only two items? These items were carefully selected based on both necessity and affordability, emphasising the importance of resourcefulness in any undertaking.

The full price came to £6.75, a figure that might seem modest but actually illustrates how thoughtful planning can significantly reduce costs. Moreover, I was fortunate enough to have a voucher code which brought that price down to £5.06, showcasing how small discounts can make a notable difference in a tight budget scenario. It’s fascinating how with a little creativity, you can achieve excellent results without breaking the bank.

What I bought

The first item I bought was a plain frosted wreath base. I chose this over the wire version because there wasn’t much of a price difference, and I knew the frosted one would bulk out the wreath more, giving it a fuller and more festive appearance.

The second thing I bought was green wire to secure everything in place, ensuring that my decorations would hold up well throughout the season.

Finding things for free

To decorate my wreath, I found ribbons which I already had at home from old Glossybox subscription boxes, each ribbon adding a touch of elegance and personal flair to my creation.

After gathering these unique pieces, I turned to nature for the rest. A quick walk around a local park revealed an abundance of rustic elements, such as pinecones, twigs, and seasonal foliage, which I carefully collected. With each step, I envisioned how these organic pieces would complement the frosted base, adding depth and character to my wreath, transforming it into a beautiful centrepiece for my home during the festive season.

How to make it

Now this is the fun bit. Before I got started on the decorating, I needed to work out how I wanted to hang it once it’s done, as an eye-catching presentation can make all the difference in showcasing your hard work.

For this wreath, I opted for a thicker ribbon, which not only adds a touch of elegance but also provides the necessary support for the decorations. I carefully tied it around the top, ensuring it was secure but still looked charmingly undone. Once this had been decided, it was time to get decorating, so I laid out everything on the table to see exactly what decorations I had, allowing my creative ideas to flow freely as I designed a beautiful arrangement. The anticipation of how it would all come together was exhilarating, fuelling my enthusiasm for the project ahead.

I placed a couple of the larger items and attached these in place before starting on the smaller items, ensuring that everything was well organised and visually balanced. Everything is secured with the green wire I bought so that I can remove them and change it for something else if I need to, which offers a great deal of flexibility in my decorating choices.

To add a bit of sparkle and character to the overall aesthetic, I tied some of the ribbons I had found into little bows and carefully placed them in amongst the other decorations, enhancing the festive vibe. The combination of the larger items along with the delicate ribbons creates a charming juxtaposition that draws the eye and adds depth to the arrangement. Overall, the meticulous attention to detail contributes to a warm and inviting atmosphere that I hope will delight anyone who sees it.

My final thoughts

I had so much fun making this Christmas wreath, pouring my creativity into each detail, and I think I will definitely do some more themed ones next year. The process was not only enjoyable but also immensely rewarding, as it allowed me to channel my artistic side.

I quite like the idea of doing an Easter one, with little eggs and bunnies beautifully arranged to capture the essence of spring. Imagine incorporating pastel colours and delicate flowers to create a vibrant, cheerful atmosphere that reflects the joy of the season.

This would make such a great festive task that all the family could get involved in, promoting togetherness and creativity while we craft something memorable. If you do make one, tag me on Instagram or X because I’d absolutely love to see your creations and maybe even share some of the inspiration behind them!

I’ll be back tomorrow with another Blogmas post. It would mean the world to me if you could subscribe to my blog, because I am trying to reach a new goal by the end of this month.

  1. If I say I can’t believe you made this yourself I don’t mean it rudely at all, but wow, it looks like something you’d buy in a shop! It looks amazing, Kelly, so professional. Love the idea of making this a festive tradition – I might have to try it next year now too 🙂

  2. I’ve actually never made a wreath before either. My neighbour has one on their door and my poor door looks so plain beside it. You’ve made it sound so easy and it looks fantastic! I should really give it a try 🙂

  5. I just recently made a new wreath for our front door using vines that had grown along our back fence and needed to be cut back. I loved that I had the opportunity to reuse them in that way and the end result was SO pretty!
