Its Christmas Eve!
I can’t believe how quickly this month has gone. I woke up feeling quite reflective this morning and found my mind wondering back to past Christmas memories. For me, Christmas is all about family and spending time together. Christmas Eve has always been the day for preparing and this year is no different. Double checking cooking timings for the next day, doing a pre- Christmas clean and having a cheese board for tea. These are all memories and traditions I’ve grown up with. As is mums last minute panic of how she is going to fit the turkey in the oven and dad having one too many drinks.
Memories of the past, help make Christmas Day in the present, what it is.
As a family, we reminisce about family members who are no longer with us. For me, there is a big gaping hole where my nan and her twin sister Mary would be. I know in my heart, that they are having a good knees up in the sky. As a family, we laugh about Mary accidently dipping her Santa hat in her gravy. Of the time I thought I had nearly killed nan when she ate one of my Brussel sprouts that I had coated in vinegar (It was a phase I went through where I had vinegar with everything!). So many memories, so much love and so much joy. This is what I will be taking forward both this year and every year to come.
A Christmas Message For You
I’m not sure what I really wanted from this post, apart from a bit of a ramble. One thing I do want to say though is put down that phone, stay off of social media… Just be in the moment. Every day is a chance to make new memories. In years to come, I’m sure you’d like to look back with fondness at the fun times you had. Don’t stress over the mess or whether someone likes the gift you got them. If they don’t, put it down to experience and try something different next year.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a very Merry Christmas. I hope you all have a lovely day!
