Getting a good nights sleep is something I have been focusing on in the last few months, so I thought I’d share some of my tips on how to get a better nights sleep.
Getting a good nights sleep is so important. More than we probably realise in fact. The amount you need is personal to you. Some people need a good eight hours whilst some need less. That is something only you can work out over time. For me, I tend to function best on between six and seven hours. Any longer than that and I just feel sluggish.

Why is sleep important?
Without enough sleep, our brains simply cannot function. This means that its harder to concentrate or think clearly. Often, you just simply aren’t on the ball. Lack of sleep is often the main reason behind accidents around the home or workplace, as well as when driving.
Delayed reactions and mood swings can also be a result of lack of sleep. In addition to this, medical conditions such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease and poor mental health have also been linked to not getting enough sleep in some cases too.
Tips for how to get a better nights sleep:
- Create your own personal evening routine that starts hours before bedtime so that you can unwind naturally
- At the start of this routine, create a to do list or brain dump for tomorrow. It helps to clean your mind and you can always add to it throughout the evening
- Sticking with being organised, get everything that you can ready for the next day. Things like your lunch, your clothes and bag etc. You will feel more rested if you know you’re not going to be rushing around in the morning
- Have a cut off point for eating or drinking anything other than water
- Dedicate part of your evening to self care. Whether that is having a relaxing bath or shower, putting on your favourite moisturiser, read a book, meditating or something else
- Use a relaxing pillow spray. These are so underrated and work wonders at helping you to drift off
- Stay off of tech as you get closer to bedtime. Things like laptops and phones are never going to help you to sleep
- Use low lighting. Turn the lights down low or use a lamp or fairy lights rather than a bright main light. It will help signal to your brain that its time to unwind and rest
- If you enjoy vaping, consider selecting a relaxing vape liquid without nicotine and with soothing ingredients like chamomile or lavender to help promote relaxation and prepare your mind for sleep. When you are vaping earlier in the evening without stimulating flavours such as citrusy notes or caffeine-based flavours, those relaxing flavours may even help promote better restful sleep.
I hope you have found these tips useful. There are so many more ways on how you can get a better nights sleep but I didn’t want this post to be too long. The main thing to remember is your routine should be bespoke for you. It needs to fit in with your lifestyle and be simple enough that it’s something you can stick to.

I never tend to have a problem getting TO sleep but I struggle staying asleep throughout the whole night and often wake up multiple times (usually to go a wee!) I’m used it to now though annoyingly so when I rarely do sleep thorough the night it feels AMAZING! I tend to do a nice skincare routine before bed and read which sends me off x

I try my best to write down everything down the night before to clear my mind and I also prepare everything, it helps a lot! I’m definitely guilty of using screens before bedtime though!!
