Today I’m talking all about 5 things I love about travelling. This is because I’m happy to announce that I’m launching a travel section on this blog. I’m hoping to combine the places I’ve travelled to, with some guest posts from other bloggers. If you would like to guest post for either my travel section or any other section of my blog, please check out my requirements and get in touch.
Here is 5 things I love about travelling:
Exploring somewhere new
There is something so exciting about exploring new places. I love stepping outside the hotel for the first time and just going for a wonder to see what is about. I always ask for recommendations online but sometimes you discover those little hidden gems just by exploring.
Meeting new people
I have met some lovely people over the years through travelling. When people are on holiday, they are so much more relaxed and friendly. You can really get to know them. I’ve made several friends this way and have made good memories in the process.
Learning about new cultures
I have never been someone that can learn from a book. I struggled at school for this very reason. However, travelling has opened my eyes to so many new cultures. I’m fascinated by how others live their lives, their customs and traditions especially.
Rediscovering history
I have always loved history. Whenever I’m travelling to a new destination, I do a search to find out the history of the place. There are some real historic hidden gems to discover all over the world, some of which are on our own doorsteps. Whether you are taking Canterbury historic river tours, going on a tour of London, or doing something further afield, there is always plenty of history to learn, and doing so can greatly improve any travel experience.
Learning a new language
I have never been any good at learning languages. I took French at school but I can barely string a sentence together. However, travelling has meant that I’ve been able to learn certain words and phrases to get by. Locals are always happy to teach you common phrases as a way of connecting with you and making your stay special.
That brings me to the end of this list. There is loads more I could have added but I’d love to know what your favourite thing about travelling is in the comments.
I absolutely love travelling, I feel like it gives you a chance to explore and learn which is what I love!

I rarely travel, but I have to admit, that when I do I really enjoy discovering the new area and if it has it’s own culture or history, learning about it. Learning a new language, especially before traveling, is a great idea but learning it from the locals is also awesome.

I agree! I think the only way to learn a new language is immersion. (sorry duolingo) Have fun traveling!

The historical aspects to travel are what have always fascinated me. As a kid my family would visit forts and museums on vacation. While my siblings would complain about wanting to stay at the beach I would soak it all in like a sponge.

I agree with you and would like to add my thoughts. Traveling can provide me with new and authentic experiences about the places I visit. Another benefit is that it allows me to unwind and reflect on the path I intend to take in the near future. Different trips with different purposes will generate different ideas.

I love travelling and discovering new places. But after being away for over a week I’ve discovered we’re home birds. Especially when it comes to our felines. That being said I’d love to head somewhere new!
